kous kous cafe

Kous Kous Cafe is located near the intersection of Washington Road and Cedar Boulevard in Mt.Lebanon next to the parking garage. Kous Kous is a small BYOB family owned restaurant specializing in Moroccan cuisine. Kous Kous is ran by the team of chef owner Abdel Khila and his mother Habiba Chargi. This mother and son collaboration leads to a cuisine rooted in the traditional and the authentic yet open to modern and creative interpretations.

Our mission is to provide our diners with a memorable dining experience. We seek and use fresh fine quality products and ingredients. Our menu features local produce and other products from Penns Corner Farmers Alliance, grass fed beef and free range chicken. Moroccan food generally is flavor spicy rather than spicy hot. For that purpose, we use imported Moroccan spices to add an element of authenticity to our offerings. The majority of meals are prepared from scratch, with a lots of attention to detail and focus on quality. We urge our patrons to be patient while waiting for their meals as our focus is on quality rather than speed.

The chef owner, Abdel Khila who is also a teacher in Upper St.Clair School district, hails from Morocco and has a wide range of experiences in the restaurant and tourism industry. Abdel has degree in Hotel and restaurant management and a degree in Education. He honed his trade in some notorious establishment such as Walt Disney World company and local restaurants Baum Vivant, Cafe Zinho and La forĂȘt. His inspiration and mentor however is his mother Habiba Chargi, an excellent chef who has raised eight children and cooked thousands of authentic Moroccan meals as a homemaker in her country of Morocco. Mrs.Habiba's influence on Kous Kous is undeniable as most of the menu items originate from her own recipes and recipes transmitted to her by her own mother and previous generations. Mrs. Habiba prepares the delicious Moroccan flat bread served for dinner, bastilla rated by the post-gazette's China Millman as one of the Best dining top dishes of 2010, Moroccan cookies, marinades, meat rubs and sauces. She also has input and oversees the preparation of almost every dish on the menu.

Come and experience Moroccan cuisine in a cozy and relaxing atmosphere. We are looking forward to seeing you at KousKous Cafe!
